THE department of minerals and energy confirmed on Monday that the petrol price is to increase by one cents a litre on Wednesday. The department said last week that the international crude oil price and the rand/dollar exchange rate remained fairly stable between September 26 and October 21. However, it had been agreed that the wholesale margin of oil companies be increased by 0,5 cents a litre from Wednesday, resulting in the increased petrol price. The latest increase, the fourth since August, will set the pump price of petrol at R2,91 inland and R2,80 a litre at the coast.
