THE Road Accident Fund has made an urgent request to Government to increase the levy on the price of petrol and diesel to save the fund from running into serious cash flow problems. Sake reports that fund says a 10% increase in the levy will be necessary for the payment of road accident claims. This means the existing levy of 14,5c per litre of petrol will have to be increased by 1,5c. The levy on diesel is 10.3c. The request was sent directly to Transport Minister Dullah Omar who has not responded to it yet. It is contained in a submission by the fund in Parliament to the portfolio committee on transport.
