STRIKER Fary Faye scored twice as Senegal outclassed weakened Cote d’Ivoire 3-0 at the weekend in a warm-up match for the 2000 African Nations Cup.
Faye from Portuguese Beira Mar club struck after 15 and 36 minutes for the Lions and Mamadou Diallo applied the final blow a minute before the final whistle in Dakar.
Senegal have been drawn with defending champions Egypt, Zambia and Burkina Faso in Group C, while Cote d’Ivoire face co-hosts Ghana, Cameroon and Togo in Group A.
Togo went down 2-1 to Libya in Agilat, a town 70 kilometres from Tripoli. Jihad Mountassir and Mohamed Meftah were the Libyans scorers and Abdelkader Koubadja was on target for the West Africans.
Imadu Dooyun and Victor Skin struck early and late second-half goals to earn Nigeria, the other Nations Cup co-hosts, a 2-0 triumph over Gabon in Libreville.
Success was achieved without Europe-based stars like Nwankwo Kanu and Jay Jayu Okocha and followed a dismal showing by the national team when losing 2-0 to Greece last weekend.
The Nations Cup will be staged in Accra, Kumasi, Lagos and Kano from January 22 to February 13.
