THE bronze statue of statesman Louis Botha outside the gates of Parliament in Cape Town is strewn with flowers after a demonstration earlier on Thursday to mark international day against violence against women. Scores of women and men, including Speaker of Parliament Dr Frene Ginwala and Pan Africanist Congress member Patricia de Lille joined the demonstration and threw white rose petals at passing motorists. The demonstration was one of many countrywide efforts to highlight the day, that also saw Cape Town’s highly visible cable cars draped with white ribbons.
