SOUTH African striker Phil “Chippa” Masinga, who plays for Bari, will undergo surgery on a knee injury which will virtually rule him out of the rest of the Italian season.
Masinga twisted his knee during training last week but a fresh examination on Monday has shown the injury to be more serious than first thought, involving damaged ligaments.
The former Leeds United ace will be operated on later this week at Lucca, but his projected recovery time is in the region of four to five months. The Serie A season finishes mid-May.
