IN what is believed to be the first case of its kind in South Africa, a jet-skier was arrested on Thursday and charged in court for harassing a school of dolphins in Port Elizabeth. The 38-year-old woman was charged under the Marine Living Resource Act which does not allow people to disturb or harass dolphins or whales. “Our police helicopter saw this lady driving in between the dolphins with the jet-skier — they reported it to our blokes on foot patrol who arrested her,” the spokesman said. “People know they are not allowed to get in between the dolphins. We have had problems before, but no-one was arrested,” he added. The woman was released on R1000 rand bail and the case was postponed to February.
