UNITA ARMS DEPOT SEIZED

THE Angolan army said on Wednesday it has found a massive Unita heavy arms depot near the central town of Andulo. It also said that its troops have killed 400 rebels in operations close to the southeastern borders. A senior officer in the Angolan Armed Forces, General Jorge Barros, told state media that the 100-ton cache included large quantities of chemical weapons as well as other arms stocked some 700 kilometres southeast of the capital. State telivision showed pictures of long-range artillery, heavy machine-guns, gas masks and protective suits against chemical weapons apparently from the cache at Andulo, which fell late last year.
