INJURED SKINSTAD OUT OF SUPER 12 OPENERS

BOBBY Skinstad, the flashy Springbok loose forward who promised so much but delivered so litte at last year’s World Cup, has been ruled out of rugby for at least eight weeks. This will cause the current Bok number eight to miss the start of the Super 12 season, leaving the Stormers without their designated captain. Skinsatd, who shot to prominence in the 1998 season, sealing South Africa’s Tri-Nations win with a dummy that left Australia’s Tim Horan cold to score under the posts, injured his knee last April and has not been able to regain his dazzling form. Stormers, and Springbok, physiontherapist Wayne Diesel says Skinstad has been advised to rest from all running for six weeks, after a scope was done last November to clean out the knee joint. However, some knee muscles have not strengthened causing bone bruising. “I would rather ensure that I am ready when I do make my first appearance in the tournament. Right now my focus is on doing the necessary rehabilitation to ensure that I have no further setbacks,” Skinstad said.
