How to send a pile of poop

Web Watch

At www.dogdoo.com you can send, anonymously of course, a box of dog turds to your worst enemy. It’s worth visiting just to read the thank-you letters and recommendations.

Fan clubs, theatre troupes, football teams and similar groups can get organised on the Web using the free service at www.SmartGroups.com. Features include a message area, event calendar, a simple database and a voting system. The service hopes to attract four million users in two years. That may be a challenge because eGroups and similar offerings are already well established in the United States.

Human stupidity knows no bounds, they say. You can see the truth of this adage in the 1999 Darwin Award, posted at www.DarwinAwards.com, which are given posthumously to stupid people who have eliminated themselves from the gene pool.

Yahoo is now gearing up to support cellphones and handheld computers. It’s starting with 3Com’s Palm machines. The place to start is mobile.yahoo.com.

Notify friends and colleagues anonymously about personal hygiene problems at www. gentlehints.com, with a letter that starts: “From someone who cares.” Yeah, right!

Www.abuzz.com provides a set of forums where ordinary users, not experts, answer questions from other users. What makes this different from other online forums is that questions get routed to users best suited to answer them, based on profiles filled out when they sign up. The system will adjust also the profiles based on how each user responds to questions.
