KENYAN FOOTBALL IN TROUBLE

THE Kenyan Football Federation (KFF) has been plunged into a deep crisis.

On Monday, five of the eight National Executive Committee (NEC) members resigned en masse and called on the government to appoint a caretaker committee to run soccer in the country. The resignation follows the KFF’s failure to hold its national elections on February 5 after a dispute arose on the election procedure. Following the stalemate, outgoing chairman Peter Kenneth announced his resignation, allowing his senior vice chairman Haroun Bommett to take over the reins until fresh polls are convened in another two weeks. But Bommett and four other colleagues in the NEC said Monday they have had enough and called on the ministry of sports to institute a caretaker committee to run football in the country. They also called for the KFF bank account to be frozen, claiming money provided by Fifa for the promotion of youth football was misappropriated.
