UMAGA OUT FOR A WEEK

HURRICANES winger Tana Umaga has been suspended for a week after New Zealand Rugby Football Union judicial committee on Monday night after he was sent off in the 24th minute of the match against the Highlanders at Carisbrook. Umaga was given his orders after launching a dangerous tackle on Highlanders wing Romi Ropati. Umaga was cited after the match and attended a three hour judicial hearing which considered Umaga’s explanation that his actions were reflexive. The committee, chaired by Nick Davidson QC, said the committee concluded that the tackle was dangerous, but that Umaga did not intentionally make contact above the shoulder.
