ETHIOPIAN Kutre Dulecha snatched victory on the line in the world cross country women’s short course race on Sunday after a finish in which the three medallists shared the same time. Dulecha, the world 1500m bronze medallist, made the early pace in the 4.18km race on the second and final day of the championships in a leading group comprising Moroccan Zahra Ouaziz, Kenyan Margaret Ngotho and Britain’s Paula Radcliffe. Ouaziz, silver medallist two years ago in Marrakech one place ahead of Dulecha, made her victory bid midway through the second and final lap and led into the finishing straight. She looked set to win the title when Dulceha produced an astonishing finishing sprint to edge Ouaziz for the gold medal with Ngotho taking third place ahead of Radcliffe. The first three each clocked 13 minutes exactly with Radcliffe finishing a second behind. “I was aiming for the bronze,” Dulecha confessed as she celebrated her unlikely victory.
