Nchanga Rangers reach CAF Cup second round

NCHANGA Rangers of Zambia snatched an early goal to defeat Domoina Soavino Atsimondrano 1-0 in Madagascar and reach the second round of the African Football Confederation Cup at the weekend.

The intriguing clash was staged before a capacity 40000 crowd at the National Stadium in Antananarivo and settled by an 18th-minute goal from Kelvin Chibwe.

Rangers also won the first leg by a solitary goal and success sets up the club from the central Copperbelt region for a money-spinning clash with Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa.

Ebusua Dwarfs staged a thrilling comeback to defeat USFAS of Mali 3-0 in Cape Coast and squeeze into the last 16 having lost the first leg by two goals.

Senegalese club Sugar showed defensive resilience to stave off wave after wave of Real Banjul attacks in Gambia before scoring the only goal with 60 seconds left through Amsata Diop.

Sugar also won the first leg 1-0 and the newcomers to Africa have been rewarded with a tilt at title holders Etoile Sahel of Tunisia, who fired a record 11 goals past Chingale of Mozambique over two legs.

Hay al-Arab of Sudan were another team to impressively pass their defensive examination, drawing 0-0 with Shabana in the western Kenyan town of Nakuru to progress 2-0 on aggregate. — AFP
