SOUTH African champions Mamelodi Sundowns scored a credible away draw when they held Nkana FC of Zambia to a 1-1 draw in their African Champions’ League match at Kitwe on Sunday.
Sundowns have never gone past the second round in four previous attempts in the three annual competitions but are now perfectly positioned, with the return leg at home in Pretoria to come. French-born striker Alain Amougou scored the equaliser after Freddie Mwila put Nkana into the lead two minutes into the second half. Second round winners in the Champions League go through to the league phase of the competition, which starts in July. They are also all guaranteed $150000 from marketing and television rights.
