LIBYAN international Al Saadi Gadaffi, the son of Libyan leader Colonel Moammar Gadaffi, will play for Maltese champions Birkirkara next season, the club announced on Wednesday. “He will play with us for the first two qualifying rounds of the Champions League and will stay for the third if we reach it,” Birkirkara president Victor Zammit said. Zammit said that 29-year-old Gadaffi will also join the Maltese side for a two week training programme in preparation for the Champions League. Midfielder Gadaffi is also the president of Libya’s football Federation and plays his club football for Ahly in Libya. He has already arrived in Malta with Ahly and his personal trainer former Canadian sprint champion Ben Johnson to play in a friendly tournament on Thursday. Kadhafi was also recently approached by Italian Seria A club Perugia, but the negotiations collapsed. A friendly between Perugia and Libya last July was called off after fighting broke out between the two teams after 17 minutes featuring players on the subs benches and various officials of the two sides.
