DIDATA NOW BIGGER THAN DE BEERS

INFORMATION technology giant Dimension Data (Didata) has become the third largest South African company in terms of market capitalisation, replacing diamond giant De Beers. This comes in the wake of Didata’s share price increase of nearly 5% to R68 a share, which brings the market capitalisation to R78.77bn. De Beers’ market capitalisation stands at R77.40bn. The largest South African companies are Anglo American and Richemont, with market capitalisation of about R160bn and R103bn respectively. Below De Beers in fifth spot is Billiton with R59.11bn. One analyst said that Didata’s rise in fortune has been spurred by interest generated by the fact that the company’s position in the FTSE 100 index on the London Stock Exchange will be decided on September 6.
