CAROLUS FOR MAYOR?

HIGH Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Cheryl Carolus, has emerged as the African National Congress’s most favoured choice for mayor of Cape Town in the forthcoming local government elections, Business Day newspaper reports. An unnamed departmental official said he was aware of moves to end Cape-born Carolus’s tenure in London 18 months early so she could lead the ANC’s campaign in the city. The Metropolitan city mayor, William Bantom resigned after he was caught with pornography in his office. The official said however there of “stiff resistance” from the foreign affairs department to the plan because Carolus was doing a “fantastic job where she is”. Other ANC mayoral candidates that have been mentioned include Transport Minister Dullah Omar, current City of Cape Town Nomaindia Mfekto ANC provincial head Ebrahim Rasool.
