A FOUR-year-old girl who survived a hand grenade blast in Whittlesea, south of Queenstown, is to be discharged from the Hewu hospital soon. Two cousins, both aged 10, were killed in the explosion. The two boys were visiting their grandparents when they saw the grenade hanging in a neighbour’s tree. The boys boys are believed to have removed the pin of the M-26 hand grenade – which was banned in northern Namibia during the apartheid era, after a number of soldiers were injured using them. Police are unsure how the hand grenade got into the tree, but said there was a former Ciskei military base in the area. – AFP
