MALAWI GETS BLACK RHINO PAIR

A YOUNG Black Rhino bull and cow will be flown from Skukuza to the Liwonde National Park in Malawi this weekend to establish satellite populations of the endangered species in Southern Africa and to facilitate the development of the eco-tourism industry in the region, says the South African National Parks (SANP). The Black Rhino was officially proclaimed as an extinct species in Malawi in 1990. The sanctuary for the rhino is protected by a team of Malawian game scouts who were sent to the Kruger National Park for security training. Since 1993 four rhinos have been relocated to Liwonde NP, and have adapted well and produced two calves.
