THE Norwegian Nobel Institute has invited all the living peace prize laureates, among whom are former South African presidents FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela, to Oslo for its centenary celebrations in 2001, the newspaper Aftenposten reported this week. The institute marks the 100th awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize in December 2001, and around 40 laureates have been invited to take part in a peace symposium in Oslo on December 4-9 in connection with the award ceremony. Olav Njoelstad, head researcher at the Norwegian Nobel Institute, told the newspaper that most of the laureates have accepted the invitation. But he declined to name those who had said “yes”. It is not known yet whether De Klerk and Mandela have accepted the invitation.
