DUMPED WIVES FIGHT BACK

WIVES of Ugandan soldiers who have returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with new brides have formed an association to fight off the “intruders”. The leader of the new organisation, the wife of a senior Ugandan army officer who refused to be named, said they want President Yoweri Museveni to compensate them for their loss. The association also wants Museveni to force the soldiers to drop their Congolese partners. The plight of the DRC women was front-page news in Uganda, with huge public sympathy towards the new brides, many of whom had trekked hundreds of kilometres carrying possessions on their heads to be with their new husbands. – AFP
