CAPE MAN ARRESTED FOR DIAMOND DEALING

A 29-year-old Capetonian was arrested early on Sunday morning after he allegedly sold four diamonds worth R28_000 to undercover policemen in Springbok, Northern Cape police reported. ”Just as the man was about to be arrested in a guest room in Springbok when the transaction was finalised, the accused pulled out a 9mm pistol,” Superintendent Hendrik Swart said in a statement. ”He was overwhelmed by two detectives, but two shots were fired from the 9mm, but no one was injured as a result.” The 29-year-old apparently tried to stab the policemen as well, Swart said. The policemen confiscated the diamonds, weighing 9,21 carats, as well as the R10_000 used in the deal. The suspect would appear in court soon, Swart added.
