AFRICAN FIRST LADIES AGAINST AIDS

ELEVEN African First Ladies held their own summit in Rwanda’s capital Kigali Sunday as part of the fight against Aids which includes 25 million sufferers in Africa. The three-day gathering ending on Tuesday would come up with a plan of action against Aids in Africa by 11 wives of presidents of sub-Saharan Africa, said the hostess Jeannette Kagame, wife of Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame. Topics addressed included propagation of the Aids virus, prevention of Aids in women and children and the transmission of Aids between mother and child, she said. The summit was attended by the first ladies of Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria and Guinea Bissau. – AFP
