WITS STUDENTS PROTEST BUSH WAR TALK

CHANTING anti-US and Israel slogans about 250 students at the University of Witwatersrand marched on campus to protest against a United States president George W Bush’s ”war talk”. Slogans such as ”The Zionist must go” and ”Phansi (down with) Israel” were chanted while the students who are members of the Muslim Students Association carried banners saying ”Arrest Sharon the war criminal” and waved Palestinian flag. Association chairman Mohammed Nanabhay addressed the students before the march, saying it would highlight unwarranted attacks against Muslims and people who looked Arabic in the wake of the September 11 attacks in the US. ”We must all respect human rights, Americans are the first people who need to understand this,” Nanabhay said. – Sapa
