LANDMINE accidents in South Cuanza province killed eight people and injured 24 during the third quarter of this year, the provincial director of the National Institute for the Removal of Explosive Objects and Devices (INAROEE) said on Monday. Joaquim Antunes said the figures for the period between July and September revealed an increase in four deaths and 12 injured in relation to landmine casualties in the second quarter of the year. Antunes added that of the 24 people injured between July and September, 10 had lower limps amputated due to injuries caused by exploding landmines. However, he added that the data registered by INAROEE did not include all accidents in the province as the institute only operated in seven of South Cuanza’s 12 districts. – Sapa
