PLAN CRASH VICTIMS IDENTIFIED

THE three flight crew that were killed when a cargo plane crashed shortly after take-off at Johannesburg International Airport on Saturday morning have been identified, the Civil Aviation Authority said on Sunday. They are the pilot Eduard Davey (29) Wesley Hampton-Cole (22) and Johannes Heinrich Janik (37) a Namibian citizen. CAA representative Trevor Davids said the Cessna F406 twin turbo propeller aircraft was on route to Eros Airport in Windhoek, Namibia when it crashed at 3:19am. ”It crashed to the left of runway 21, approximately 300 meters from the end of the runway outside the airport operational area,” Davids said. ”The aircraft wreckage was recovered in a marshy area 350 meters from the fence separating the airport from the N12 Witbank Freeway and the recovery of fuel spillage is currently underway.” Davids said no structural damage was done to the runway or any section of the airport. The aircraft is owned by Trans Africa Aviation and operated by GJ Air. – Sapa
