THE Namibian Employers’ Federation (NEF) and the Public Service Union of Namibia (PSUN) yesterday expressed concern about the potential impact on the country’s economy of a mass stayaway planned for tomorrow. And the Teachers’ Union of Namibia (TUN) appealed to its members not to take part as they will not be paid for being absent from work and may lose a certain percentage of their other benefits. Foreign Affairs, Information and Broadcasting Permanent Secretary, Mocks Shivute, said on Tuesday that government would apply the principle of no work, no pay, for State employees who heed the mass stayaway call. The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW), and its 10 affiliates, on Tuesday called for a national work stayaway to protest the US-led bombing campaign against Afghanistan and the privatisation and mismanagement at State-owned enterprises. – The Namibian
