BoE bank handed over a donation of R10 000 to the National Sea Rescue Institute on Friday for the repair of the institute’s rescue boat at Knysna.
The 25-year-old rescue craft was damaged when it recently pulled a stranded, 37-ton whale off the sandbank in the Knysna estuary.
The donation was handed over by the bank’s managing director Andrew Aitken at the NSRI offices at the Knysna Heads. Aitken said it was important to get the rescue boat back into the water and fully operational.
”Over the years, it has carried out 405 operations and saved the lives of 124 people as well as the life of one very large whale,” Aitken said. – Sapa
