Chiluba to share benefits with ex-wife

Zambia’s former president Frederick Chiluba will share 40% of his retirement salary with his divorced wife Vera as long as she remains single, the state-run Times of Zambia said on Thursday.

According to a consent judgement signed by high court judge Tamula Kakusa, Vera has also been awarded a family house where she currently lives, the Times of Zambia report said, quoting the court judgement.

The court also ordered that Vera should keep all family property in her possession until she decides to remarry, the newspaper said.

Chiluba divorced his wife of 33 years last year after he accused her of flirting with a prominent businessman in Zambia.

Vera had initially asked to be compensated $2,5-billion in a divorce settlement, but the court threw out the case on the grounds that the couple married under customary law. – Sapa-AFP
