Even the pyramid builders needed a foreman

A US archeology team has discovered the oldest known administrative offices of the builders of the Khephren and Mykerinos pyramids, 500 metres south of the Sphinx near Cairo, the Supreme Council of Antiquities said on Tuesday.

The US team found the ruins of the 4 500-year-old structure, east of the necropolis for workers on the grounds surrounding the pyramids at Giza on the southwest edge of Cairo, it added.

The archeologists excavated most of the building, which was made of stones 48 metres in length, but were forced to stop their digging after they come up against a sports club built in 1984, the council said. – Sapa-AFP
