FLOODS and mudslides caused by torrential rains in Kenya have killed 46 people and injured eight others in the past two weeks, police said on Thursday.
The victims include 15 people who died when their homes were hit by mudslides in separate incidents in the central Meru and Muranga districts near Mount Kenya, a police statement said.
In Meru on April 30, 10 members of a family were buried alive when a landslide hit their homes as they slept. In a similar incident in Muranga on May 4, five members of another family were killed. Other victims, including seven in Nairobi, drowned in flash floods caused by heavy rains in various parts of the country, according to the statement by police spokesman Dola Indidis. – Sapa
