Right wing ‘bombers’ go to ground

Police were searching on Sunday for several rightwingers suspected in a plan to explode cooking gas canisters rigged with explosives in public places.

Detectives armed with warrants of arrest have searched several farms in five provinces but the suspects have gone into hiding.

Representative Captain Ronnie Naidoo said there was no evidence available that the plan was to detonate the bombs during the World Summit on Sustainable Development, despite a report to this effect in a Sunday newspaper.

Naidoo said the plan had been uncovered during investigations ongoing since a right wing sabotage and coup plot was uncovered earlier this year.

Detectives have since obtained photographs of the rigged canisters.

The right wing cell responsible for the exploding cannisters is believed to be linked to ”Boeremag” rightwingers arrested in August for an alleged plan to blow up several dams with the aim of overthrowing the government.

They allegedly also planned to chase all blacks out of the country and undertook to ”give” the Western Cape to coloured people in return for their help with the coup plot. – Sapa
