US USES PLANE TO DELIVER MAIL

THE United States has deployed a special air force plane to deliver mail to its embassies in Africa following a threat from mail containing anthrax, aviation sources said in Kampala on Sunday. Sources at Uganda’s Entebbe Airport said that a C-141 transport plane has been flying into the airport to deliver and pick-up diplomatic bags from the US embassy and had then been flying to other airports in Africa to do the same. Contents of diplomatic bags are not subject to inspection or taxation at airports. The new arrangement followed the September 11 terrorist attack in the United States and subsequent anthrax attacks through mail in the US that have so far killed killed four people. There has been anthrax scares in other parts of the world and the US embassies have since heightened their security detail, including testing all incoming mails. – AFP
