Cultural sushi

Two major Afrikaans entertainers will rock expatriates in London over the next two months. Singer and food aficionado Lochner de Kock will perform and do a food demonstration at the Springbok Bar in Shepard’s Bush on March 9. Comedian Casper de Vries is booked to play at Friend’s House on Euston Road on April 3 and 4.

British band Faithless will tour South Africa from April 18 to 20, doing concerts in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. Their recent third album, Outrospective, has been described as moving “from melancholy to mad love, from glorious empowerment to bittersweet tales of love gone wrong”. The Johannesburg Art gallery’s assistant exhibition officer, Pitso Chinzima, has been selected to represent South Africa in the 25th Sao Paulo Biennial from March 23 in Brazil. The theme of the biennial is Metropolitan Iconographies and will focus on, “the manner in which urban energy influence’s today’s artist”. He was chosen by a selection committee comprising of members of the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology and the National Arts Council of South Africa.

The French Institute of South Africa has announced that novelist Ivan Vladislavic will represent the country this month, at the yearly festival of travel writing, Etonnants Voyageurs (Stunning Travellers) that will take place in Bamako, in Mali.
