The Johannesburg World Summit Company (Jowsco) is calling on South Africans to volunteer their skills and services to ensure that the World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002 is a success.
Jowsco is inviting volunteers from all walks of life to assist the company on various identified tasks. Volunteers required include professionals, students, skilled individuals and civil servants. The corporate sector is also encouraged to second people with specific skills as their contribution to the ideals of sustainable development.
Moss Mashishi, CEO of Jowsco, says: “This is the Year of Volunteerism and the World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002 volunteer programme will probably be the largest to date in South Africa. It is important that each one of us takes the initiative and responsibility to show our generous hospitality.”
The summit presents an opportunity for South Africans to participate in this United Nations event and interact with people from all parts of the world. Volunteering will also ensure the transfer of skills as participants will be trained and exposed to the processes of putting together a massive event of this scale.
Jowsco has embarked on a recruitment drive for volunteers. A roadshow addressing professionals from the main regions and students in the Gauteng area will ensure that the target of 5 000 volunteers is reached. Applicants will be contacted through a volunteers newsletter.
