Tacky, Lemmer

Krisjan Lemmer (March 15) informed readers that a statement in Parliament that the Zimbabwe election was free and fair came from an African National Congress MP who is blind.

The blindness is apparently meant to symbolise the futility of his bothering to form a point of view. One imagines that if he had claimed the elections had been rigged the same journalistic poor taste would have asserted it so obviously true that even the blind could spot it.

As it happens, there is more than one blind person in the house.

The remark was insulting to the person concerned and to blind people.

Only the M&G would permit themselves this kind of cheap shot. Johan Roos, Grahamstown
