The Arts & Culture Trust has announced the finalists for its 2002 awards. The finalists comprise top individuals and projects that have gained a high profile and achieved success in the arts in the past year.
For Arts Administrator of the Year (sponsored by Old Mutual) the nominees are: Shadrack Bokaba, Rashid Lomabrd and Bongani Tembe.
For Arts and Culture Journalist of the Year (sponsored by Sun International): Michelle Constant, Themba ka Mathe and Alan Swerdlow.
For Media in Support of the Arts (sponsored by the Vodacom Foundation): Peter Cilliers Productions for Kyknet, SAFM and Hola in Sowetan Sunday World.
For Arts and Culture Publicist of the year (sponsored by the Vodacom Foundation): Genevieve Cutts, Rodney Lentit and Tin Can Communication.
For Cultural Development Project of the year (sponsored by Sasol): District Six Museum Ambassador Programme, Moving into Dance Mophatong, Remix Theatre Company and Steps for the Future.
For International Arts and Cultural Sponsor of the Year: The British Council, The French Institute of South Africa and The Swedish International Development Agency.
For the Arts & Culture Trust Best Practice project: Buskaid Soweto String Project, Co-Opera Company East London Guild and the Field Band Foundation.
The winners, and the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, will be announced by the Arts & Culture Trust at an award ceremony in Sandton on October 10. The panel of distinguished judges consisted of Bongi Dhlomo, Gewn Ansell, Sandile Memela, Nise Malanga and John van Zyl.
