Four people were stabbed to death and a two-year-old baby was among the three reported child rapes in the Northern Cape on Saturday night, police reported.
Inspector Tony Modise said a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in Upington at 1am during an argument with a 22-year-old man, who was arrested.
Gert Barends (29) of the farm Uitdraai, Prieska, was stabbed in the chest and killed during a fight with a 15-year-old boy on the farm.
The teenager would appear in the Prieska Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Modise said.
Police in Hopetown arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the knifing to death of Richard Andrew (28) during an argument. And a 40-year-old man died after being knifed at 11pm on Saturday by a 26-year-old man at Sunnyside, Noupoort.
Modise also said a 23-month-old baby was raped by a man in his late 20s around 9am on Saturday at Lerato park, Kimberley. The infant was found with the suspect in his shack by her mother who saw her baby was bleeding profusely between her legs. The infant is in hospital in a stable condition and police were waiting for DNA tests to be completed because, Modise said, the walls of the alleged rapist’s shack were plastered with pictures of children who are HIV positive.
The suspect was arrested and would appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Modise said. – Sapa
