SA fold up for 330 against Bangladesh

Mohammad Rafique returned the best-ever figures by a Bangladesh bowler as South Africa was bowled out for 330 on the second day of the second Test in Dhaka on Friday.

The 32-year-old left-hander bagged 6-77 even as debutant left-hander Robin Peterson struck a fine 61 with the help of eight fours at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Rafique’s effort was only the third haul of five or more wickets in a Test innings by a Bangladeshi, the others being off-spinner Naimur Rahman and left-arm pacer Manjural Islam.

Rafique dismissed Allan Dawson, caught behind, and then bowled tail-ender Paul Adams to ensure the South African innings was not much prolonged.

Leg-spinner Mohammad Ashraful and seamer Mashrafi bin Mortaza took the other two wickets to fall after the first session was washed out.

South Africa had resumed from an overnight score of 264-6 in their quest to win the two-Test series 2-0. They had scored a comprehensive innings and 60-run victory in the first Test at Chittagong, with Bangladesh struggling to justify their Test status, having lost 17 of 18 Tests since 2000. – Sapa-AFP
