Holland post huge score against Namibia

Holland, boosted by brilliant centuries Feiko Kloppenburg and Klaas van Noortwijk, posted a massive 314 for four wickets after electing to bat in their Pool A World Cup fixture against Namibia in Bloemfontein on Monday.

The Dutch look well set to win their first ever World Cup match while for the Namibians, it looks like they will end the tournament without a win.

Kloppenburg hit Holland’s first-ever official one-day century, blasting his way to 120 before being caught behind by Melt van Schoor off the bowling of Gerrie Snyman in the 44th over.

Kloppenberg, together with Van Noortwijk, who scored Holland’s second-ever century, took the impetus away from the Namibians with a magnificent second-wicket partnership of 228 runs off 243 balls. That partnership set the tone for the Dutch to push through the 300-run barrier with Van Noortwijk closing the innings off well, finishing on an unbeaten 134 off 129 balls (11×4, 3×6).

The Namibians letthemselves down badly in the field while their bowlers lacked any real penetration. Gentle medium-pacer Louis Burger almost brightened up the Namibian efforts, picking up the wickets of Bas Zuderent and Tim de Leede with successive balls in the 47th over but it was a case of too little too late. Burger finished with the best bowling figures returning 2-49 off 10 overs. – Sapa
