Convenor of selectors Omar Henry on Friday evening dismissed rumours that South African cricket captain Shaun Pollock had tendered his resignation.
”Shaun did not resign today,” said Henry, after a meeting between the skipper, team coach Eric Simons and the selection board on Friday.
The United Cricket Board (UCB) of South Africa was unable to deny or confirm rumours earlier in the day that Pollock had handed in his resignation at the meeting with the selectors and the coach in Cape Town.
Pollock was under enormous pressure to quit after South Africa was dumped from the World Cup after the first round.
Following their elimination, however, Pollock stated categorically that he would not step down.
Rumours about Pollock resigning after three years as his country’s cricket captain followed the resignation of national selector Pat Symcox, who stepped down from the panel on Saturday. – Sapa
