Deputy President Jacob Zuma met with the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) in Pretoria on Friday to discuss a forthcoming meeting between the TAC and the SA National Aids Council, Zuma’s office said.
Spokesperson Lakela Kaunda said in a statement that Zuma met a TAC delegation which included chairperson Zackie Achmat and national secretary Mark Heywood.
The meeting between the TAC and the SA National Aids Council was expected to take place on May 17.
Kaunda said the agenda and preparations for the meeting were discussed on Friday.
Earlier this month, TAC supporters began civil disobedience campaign to force the government to introduce a universal Aids treatment programme.
Eighteen members of the TAC appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Friday charged with trespassing after a five-hour sit-in on Thursday at the Cape Town offices of the Department of Trade and Industry. ‒ Sapa
