Strokeplay tournament for aspiring black golfers

Aspiring black golfers can take part in the Sunshine Tour 36 Hole Development Strokeplay tournament to be played at Observatory Golf Club in Johannesburg on July 8 and 9.

This event provides historically disadvantaged golfers the opportunity to qualify to participate on the country’s premier professional golf circuit, the Sunshine Tour, and also for financial assistance in playing the circuit, it was announced on Friday.

Entries for the event close at 5pm on Sunday, July 6. Theo Manyama, the Sunshine Tour’s internationally renowned rules official, will run the event.

According to Nic Lanham, manager operations of the Sunshine Tour, the leading three players on conclusion of the event will be awarded playing privileges and will be given financial assistance.

All players within five strokes of the winner will only be given playing privileges on the Sunshine Tour. – Sapa
