PAC condemns splinter group

The Pan Africanist Congress on Sunday called for unity within its ranks and condemned a meeting called by ”dubious characters” in Cape Town at the weekend as unconstitutional.

Deputy president of the PAC Themba Godi said, ”The PAC wants to reiterate that the illegal meeting of dissidents and their master, which was held over the weekend, will not achieve anything.

”They must abide by the constitution and disciplinary code of the PAC.”

He said the leadership of the party under Dr Motsoko Pheko was not up for discussion until the next PAC congress in three years.

Godi said the party did not see this weekend’s meeting as a threat to party structures. He compared that gathering to a number of recent official PAC conferences, which were attended by more than 1 000 delegates in each case.

”The PAC will not be sidetracked by their circus.”

He thanked members who heeded the party’s call not to attend this weekend’s Cape Town meeting, which he described as unstructural and unconstitutional. — Sapa
