Mail & Guardian journalist Wisani wa ka Ngobeni received another top award this week. He was the winner in the print news category of the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Awards 2003 (northern/southern region).
”Our winner met all the requirements in producing a great news story,” Vodacom announced on Wednesday night. ”It broke the news, it was well researched, it got the facts right, it was well written and it had major impact.” The story was ”Shadow falls on Lekota” (May 16 2003), detailing Minister of Defence Mosiuoa Lekota’s hidden business dealings.
”Ngobeni’s commitment to thorough research, his doggedness and his love of the craft make exactly the type of journalism South Africa needs as we seek to deepen democratic values and promote an open society,” M&G editor Mondli Makhanya said.
Regional winners go through to Vodacom’s overall national competition, the ceremony for which will take place in November.
