England don’t need their beauty sleep

England coach Clive Woodward laughed off calls from an Australian newspaper to create bedlam at his team’s hotel in Sydney on Friday ahead of Saturday’s World Cup final.

The tabloid Daily Telegraph called on Australian fans to converge on England’s beachfront hotel in Manly on Friday with ”bugles and drums at the ready” in an effort to disrupt the team’s sleep.

But Woodward laughed off the light-hearted stunt to disrupt the English players’ beauty sleep.

”They’re probably not the most beautiful bunch of players anyway,” Woodward quipped.

”What will be will be. But I don’t think we’re going to lose a Test match tomorrow night if someone’s sleep is disrupted.”

The England coach said the team had already been subjected to barracking outside the hotel.

”It was pretty noisy last night to be fair,” Woodward said. ”I could hear a few people outside shouting ‘boring, boring’.

”I was in bed with my wife at the time. Fortunately I realised what they were trying to say to me from the road below.”

”I’m sure there’ll be some good-natured banter but I don’t think if we were to lose tomorrow it will be because of the hotel at Manly.

”I just hope that Australia gives us a fair chance and it’s a peaceful night.” — Sapa-AFP
