Comfortable win for Easterns

A century partnership between Andre Seymore and Test all-rounder Andrew Hall steered Easterns to a comfortable seven-wicket win over North West Dragons on a damp evening at Willowmoore Park on Wednesday night.

Despite a delayed start to the Standard Bank Series day/night match and a hold-up for a shower midway through the Easterns innings, the experience of the Test and limited-overs all-rounder Hall and Seymore proved to be too much for the plucky visitors.

Easterns scored 191 for three in 43 overs in reply to the North West total of 189 all out.

The victory takes Easterns into second place in the log behind Western Province and is the East Rand team’s fourth victory of the season.

Seymore scored 79 and Hall 59 as they put together a partnership of 116 before Hall was followed back to the pavilion by Seymore with the latter being run out in a pitch mix-up with stand-in captain Zander de Bruyn, deputising for Daryll Cullinan.

All-rounder Dirkie de Vos scored a half-century for the Dragons but received no support from the rest of the side while Albie Morkel dismantled the lower Dragons order with some tight, yorker length bowling. — Sapa
