Lightning kills church-goer in Zambia

Lightning hit a church in Zambia over the weekend, killing one worshipper and injuring several others, a police spokesperson said on Monday.

Brenda Muntemba said the sermon at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the capital was about to start on Saturday when it was struck by a lightning bolt.

”One person died on the spot and several others were taken to hospital and were later discharged after they were treated for burn wounds,” said Muntemba.

The deceased’s name was not given.

Nine people, including five children and a priest, were killed earlier this month when lightning struck a church in Swaziland, a tiny kingdom sandwiched between South Africa and Mozambique.
