ANC bemoans IFP ‘disinformation plan’

A statement issued by the African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday claimed that the ANC had been informed by “reliable sources at Ulundi” that there will be a “stage-managed so-called defection of (bogus) ANC members to the IFP [Inkatha Freedom Party] tomorrow (Sunday) at its (IFP) manifesto launch at Lindelani in Durban”.

The statement said between 200 and 300 people wearing ANC T-shirts will be paraded before the media and the crowd masquerading as defectors who apparently will be saying they “went astray by becoming ANC members, now they are joining the IFP”.

The ANC called the plans a “desperate panic of the IFP because of the visible groundswell of support towards the ANC presently [sic] evident in KwaZulu-Natal”.

“We will not be distracted from our focus to mobilise people of this province to go and register during the weekend of January 24 and 25 in order to be able to vote wisely in the forthcoming elections,” the statement said.
