Tsedu denies speculation about move to City Press

Former Sunday Times editor Mathatha Tsedu on Friday denied a report in the This Day newspaper that he would be the next editor of the weekly City Press newspaper.

”It is not true,” Tsedu said after being congratulated by a journalist on taking the position. ”I’ve seen the story,” he said. ”I’ve not been told I’ve been appointed. I’ve not signed anything.”

This Day reported that Media24, City Press’ owner, was to make an announcement on the matter next week.

Tsedu was dismissed from the Sunday Times after being accused of under-performance.

Tsedu was sacked after one of his political reporters, Ranjeni Munusamy, leaked a report he had refused to publish regarding National Prosecutions Authority chief Bulelani Ngcuka allegedly having been an apartheid spy to the City Press.

The report and its subsequent debunking before the Hefer Commission of Inquiry cost the then City Press editor, Vusi Mona, his job. – Sapa
